Promould® / Materials guide

EPS core mesh moulding.

A guide to the foam core, fiberglass reinforcement and cementitious coating used in Promould® exterior architectural mouldings.

What is EPS core mesh moulding?

EPS core mesh moulding is an architectural profile formed from expanded polystyrene foam, reinforced with fiberglass mesh and covered with a cementitious base coat. Decorawall's Promould® system uses this assembly for exterior window and door surrounds, cornices, bands and custom shapes.

Each part has a distinct role. The EPS core provides the shape; the mesh reinforces the coating; and the pre-applied base coat forms the surface for the specified installation and finishing process. See the Promould exterior moulding range for applications and completed project photographs.

01 / Shape

EPS foam core

Expanded polystyrene is cut to the required architectural section. Compare the catalogue dimensions or submit a drawing for a custom shape.

02 / Reinforcement

Fiberglass mesh

The mesh reinforces the exterior coating and helps control movement. Reinforcement and joint treatment must follow the Promould specification.

03 / Surface

Cementitious base coat

An EIFS-type base coat covers the profile. Adhesive, installation details and the final finish remain part of the complete project assembly.

Where are mesh-reinforced foam mouldings used?

Exterior foam molding can define an opening, repeat a horizontal line along an elevation or create a more detailed entrance. Promould profiles include trims, sills, cornices, bands, keystones, quoins, pilasters and column details. Choose the section according to the intended application and coordinate it with the surrounding construction.

Does interior foam moulding use the same mesh and coating?

Decorawall's two systems use different coatings for their intended applications. Promould exterior moulding uses fiberglass mesh and a cementitious coating. Decoralite interior mouldings use a modified gypsum coating over an EPS core and contain no fiberglass mesh. Select the appropriate system before comparing profiles or installation methods.

What should you check before specifying or installing?

  1. The section: confirm the profile code, height, projection and any custom dimensions against the drawings.
  2. The substrate and attachment: review the wall condition, preparation, adhesive and fastening requirements for the proposed detail.
  3. Joints and finishing: coordinate reinforcement, transitions and the specified finish with the current installation instructions.
  4. The project requirements: confirm suitability, quantities, availability and delivery arrangements with Decorawall before ordering.

Use this material overview alongside the Promould technical specifications and Promould installation instructions. The published specification is a guide that must be coordinated with the requirements of the individual project.
